"Case 39"

All Emily (Renee Zellweger) a case worker, was trying to do was her job and save a neglected child Lilly (Jodelle Ferland), or what appeared to be neglect from her parents...however, it turned out to be the parents protecting themselves from Lilly. After Lilly's parents are institutionalized for trying to kill Lilly and Emily protest for custody of Lilly until she is placed in a permanent home, do people closest to Emily start to die mysteriously. No one seems to know why, but eventually clues start point back to Lilly. That's when Emily starts shaking in her boots, scared to go home It's not till the end when she goes to see Lilly's father to get answers and ultimately comes to the same conclusion as Lilly's parents did. During this whole time, Lilly who is some sort of super natural being, is playing and tormenting Emily, killing anyone who might be a threat or just for kicks, and is enjoying herself because she can. Who can stop her after all?? However what Emily finds out is that Lilly can only really hurt you if you show fear.

It was chilling and suspenseful more than anything else. The blood scenes were minimal and there were a few jumpy scenes. They didn't show her "evil" side too much...she was more scary when she was her kid self by the way she manipulated, smiled, and talked to people. It was the way she would smiled, waved, said "hello", and talked like an adult that was scary. She could tell what you were thinking and sense your every move....chilling. It was her way or no way.

Some people tried to compare her character to Orphan and say that her character was a better at the "good-girl" gone bad..but you can't compare it. In Orphan, Ester wasn't a child, she was a crazy 35 year adult. Lilly was some sort of super natural being with the powers to kill people without her putting a finger on them.

It was no M. Night Shyamalan- movie, but it makes the cut and then some for me.

I gave it 2 thumbs up!!!

Did You know??

This is Renee's first horror film in 16 years and that Jodell Ferland has been in several movies for her to be 15years old..one of which is one of favorite movies, Silent Hill.

"Let Me In"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reRRAEVHq8E

If you are looking for a really good horror film that will knock you out of your seat, make you jump with blood and gore, and make you afraid of the dark, then you won't find it in "Let Me In". However if you are looking for, suspense, drama, a chill, intense scenes, with just a taste of blood, gore and horror, and white eyes, then Let Me In would be right up your alley. Ultimately a good Vampire movie in my opinion, but not scary at all. Like most movies today, the previews are scarier than the actually movie, but that's how they get you in there. But then again it takes A LOT to scare me...smh

The movie was a English adaptation of a Swedish novel called 'Let The Right One In' by a Swedish writer named John Ajvide Lindqvist back in 2004. It was later directed by Tomas Alfedson and released in only a few cities in the US in 2008.

However the movie didn't increase its achieved widespread acclaim until it was remade and released by Matt Reeves on October 1st, 2010.

The Plot
The story begins with a troubled, lonely, and a little disturbed 12 year old named Owen. Owen is bullied by the kids at school, and has no friends, but appears to get a good kid. He befriends 12 year old Abby who just moved into the complex with "father". It starts out as "You want to play with my Rubik Cube" and ends with "You want to go steady with me" by Owen. They becomes really good friends. Abby teaches him to stand up for himself and Owen teaches her to let people in. They were both lonely. With Abby being a vampire approx. 60 something years old in a 12 year old body and Owen w/ no friends at all it's no miracle they became friends. Abby's "father" who was also lonely, tired, and old in having to kill people for Abby night after night so she can Fed, while watching himself grow older as she remained the timeless. Owen's mother who was also lonely and distant from Owen, drinking and going through a divorce from Owen's father, is important to point out as it contributed to Owen's behavior. I did find it strange that they never showed the mother's face, just different parts of her body..hummmmmmmmm. Then there was the cop who was investigating the number of bodies piling up and trying to put the different pieces together..which in the end he just pushed a little too far. But it had storyline that kept you guessing and an ending that was both promising and disastrous. It was a long movie, but worth it.

BTW, I viewed 'Let The Right One In' briefly and it appears to have the exact some story line and scenes in the 2010 version..so I may check that out as well.

I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP!!!

Devil

Gee, what can I say about the movie "Devil"..except that it wasn't exactly what you thought it was going to be about. When people here about a movie named "Devil" they think of exorcisms, possessions, etc...but it was none of that. It actually makes you wonder if things like punishing the bad for wrong things that they do on earth...tourmenting them while they are still on earth and the afterlife really happens..and that there are NO coincidences. I have always believed that things happen for a reason. They already have it all figured it out. It basically said that all the bad things that we do will catch up to us to matter what. You can't escape it. And untill you actually admit your wrong doings, seek forgiveness from God, and forgive others for wrong they have done to you, that the "Devil" will pass you by...and that's where God comes in. It reminded me a lot of judgement day. It had a few jumpy, intense, and bloody scenes but not that many. You didn't know what form he was taking and even when you tink you know, you don't. There was a also clear explanation as to why these things were happening to the group of people..I think there is always a reason why things happen even if we don't know what it is at the time.
So if you can stand suspense and all the other things I mention..go see it. I loved it!! I shook my head as I walked out of the movie..
